Troubleshoot RPM Files
Common Problems Opening RPM Files
Red Hat Package Manager Disappeared
When you double-click your RPM file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Customarily, this means that Red Hat Package Manager is not installed on %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the RPM file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you don't have Red Hat Package Manager installed, and you know of another program to open your RPM file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Outdated Red Hat Package Manager
Your Red Hat Package Manager File file is incompatible with Red Hat Package Manager because you might have the wrong version installed. Installing the latest version of Red Hat Package Manager from Open Source is recommended. This problem is predominately due to having a Red Hat Package Manager File file version that was created by a newer version of Red Hat Package Manager than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of RPM file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening RPM files are due to having the wrong version of Red Hat Package Manager installed.
Other RPM File Issues
Although you might already have Red Hat Package Manager or another RPM-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Red Hat Package Manager File files. If you're still experiencing problems opening RPM files, there could be other computer problems. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
