Understanding CBIN Issues
Common CBIN Opening Problems
Unknown Software Disappeared
You attempt to load your CBIN file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The CBIN File Extension". Customarily, this means that Unknown Software is not installed on %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your CBIN file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you don't have Unknown Software installed, and you know of another program to open your CBIN file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Outdated Unknown Software
It is possible that your version of Unknown Software isn't able to open your CACTVS Chemical Binary File file due to incompatibility. If you've got the wrong version of Unknown Software installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This problem is predominately due to having a CACTVS Chemical Binary File file version that was created by a newer version of Unknown Software than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your CBIN file and clicking "Properties".
Primarily, problems experienced when opening CBIN files are due to having the incorrect version of Unknown Software installed on your computer.
Other CBIN File Opening Causes
Even with the correct version of Unknown Software installed, you can still experience difficulties opening CBINs. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening CBINs. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for CBIN
- Accidental deletion of the description of the CBIN file in the Windows registry
- Defective install of a CBIN program, such as Unknown Software
- Your CBIN file is corrupted (issues with your CACTVS Chemical Binary File file itself)
- CBIN file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Device drivers for CBIN-related hardware are out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open CACTVS Chemical Binary File files
