Troubleshooting Problems Opening SD Files
Troubles Opening SD Files
Awave Studio is Not Installed
Double-clicking your SD file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open SD File". Customarily, this means that Awave Studio is not installed on %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: Another SD-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Outdated Awave Studio
Sometimes your installed version of Awave Studio won't support your Sound Designer Audio File file. You will need to download a newer version of Awave Studio if you don't have the right version. The primary cause of this problem is that your Sound Designer Audio File file was created by a different (newer) version of Awave Studio than what's installed.
Tip: If you right-click on your SD file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening SD files are due to having the wrong version of Awave Studio installed.
More Causes of Problems Opening SDs
Assuming you have the right Awave Studio version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening SD files. If you are still having problems opening SD files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Issues that aren't software-related:
- SD file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Deletion of the SD file description from the Registry by mistake
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the SD format
- Your SD can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Malware-tainted SD file can't be opened
- Hardware associated with SD has outdated drivers
- Windows cannot load your Sound Designer Audio File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
