Troubles Opening GPT Files

Altium Designer is Not Installed

If you attempt to load your GPT file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open GPT Files". Usually, this is because you do not have Altium Designer for %%os%% installed. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.

Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your GPT, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").

Obsolete Version of Altium Designer

Your Gerber Top Pad Master Data file is incompatible with Altium Designer because you might have the wrong version installed. Installing the latest version of Altium Designer from Altium is recommended. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.

Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of GPT file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).

Summary: Not having the right Altium Designer version on your computer can cause problems opening GPT files.
