Issues Opening VMS Files
Dream Explorer Not Present
You encounter an error message such as "- Can't Open VMS Files" when trying to open your VMS. If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Dream Explorer for - installed on your computer. Your operating system cannot associate your VMS with Dream Explorer, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: Another VMS-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Dream Explorer Requires Update
Sometimes your installed version of Dream Explorer won't support your Dreamcast VMU Save File file. If you do not have the proper version Dream Explorer (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the VMS file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.

More Causes of Problems Opening VMSs
Assuming you have the right Dream Explorer version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening VMS files. If you are still having problems opening VMS files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Problems unrelated to software:

- Unintentional removal of the description of the VMS file inside the Windows Registry
- Corrupt install of Dream Explorer or other VMS-related program
- File corruption affecting your VMS file
- Your VMS has adversely impacted by malware
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your VMS file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Dreamcast VMU Save File file
