JPE Troubleshooting
Common JPE Opening Problems
XnView MP Removed
You attempt to load your JPE file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The JPE File Extension". If so, it typically means that you don't have XnView MP installed for %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your JPE with XnView MP, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your JPE, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Incorrect XnView MP Version
Sometimes your installed version of XnView MP won't support your JPEG Bitmap Image Format file. If you do not have the proper version XnView MP (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This issue mainly occurs when your JPEG Bitmap Image Format file was created by a newer version of XnView MP than you have on your PC.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of JPE file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Conclusion: The majority of JPE file opening issues are due to not having the correct XnView MP version installed.
Additional JPE Opening Issues
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of XnView MP will resolve your issue. If you are continuing to have errors with loading JPE files, other external issues might be to blame. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- JPE file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- The JPE file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Corrupt install of XnView MP or other JPE-related program
- Your JPE file is corrupted (issues with your JPEG Bitmap Image Format file itself)
- The JPE is infected with a virus
- Hardware related to JPEs has device driver corruption
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your JPEG Bitmap Image Format file successfully
