TGA File Complications
Frequent TGA Opening Issues
Adobe Illustrator CC Isn't There
When trying to open your TGA file, you get the error "Can't Open TGA File Type". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Adobe Illustrator CC isn't installed on your PC. Your operating system cannot associate your TGA with Adobe Illustrator CC, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: When another TGA application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Adobe Illustrator CC Requires Update
Sometimes your installed version of Adobe Illustrator CC won't support your Targa Graphic file. If you do not have the proper version Adobe Illustrator CC (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This issue mainly occurs when your Targa Graphic file was created by a newer version of Adobe Illustrator CC than you have on your PC.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of TGA file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening TGA files are due to having the wrong version of Adobe Illustrator CC installed.
Additional TGA Opening Issues
Even with the correct version of Adobe Illustrator CC installed, you can still experience difficulties opening TGAs. If you are continuing to have errors with loading TGA files, other external issues might be to blame. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- TGA file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- The TGA file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the TGA format
- Something has caused file corruption of your TGA
- Your TGA is infected with malware
- TGA-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the Targa Graphic format
