TIF File Complications
Typical TIF Opening Challenges
Missing Adobe Illustrator CC
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open TIF Files" when trying to open your TIF. If so, it typically means that you don't have Adobe Illustrator CC installed for %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your TIF file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Wrong Version of Adobe Illustrator CC is Installed
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Tagged Image File Format file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Visit the Adobe Systems Incorporated website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Adobe Illustrator CC. The primary cause of this problem is that your Tagged Image File Format file was created by a different (newer) version of Adobe Illustrator CC than what's installed.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of TIF file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Primarily, problems experienced when opening TIF files are due to having the incorrect version of Adobe Illustrator CC installed on your computer.
Other Causes of TIF File Opening Problems
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Adobe Illustrator CC will resolve your issue. If you are continuing to have errors with loading TIF files, other external issues might be to blame. Problems unrelated to software:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for TIF
- Corruption of the TIF file description inside the Registry
- Invalid installation of a TIF-associated program (eg. Adobe Illustrator CC)
- Something has caused file corruption of your TIF
- Your TIF is infected with malware
- Hardware related to TIFs has device driver corruption
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Tagged Image File Format file
