DXF File Complications
Issues Opening DXF Files
Missing Adobe Illustrator CC
When trying to open your DXF file, you get the error "Can't Open DXF File Type". Customarily, this means that Adobe Illustrator CC is not installed on %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your DXF with Adobe Illustrator CC, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens DXF files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Incorrect Adobe Illustrator CC Version
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Drawing Exchange Format file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you've got the wrong version of Adobe Illustrator CC installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This problem is predominately due to having a Drawing Exchange Format file version that was created by a newer version of Adobe Illustrator CC than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your DXF file and clicking "Properties".
Summary: Not having the right Adobe Illustrator CC version on your computer can cause problems opening DXF files.
Additional DXF Opening Issues
Although you might already have Adobe Illustrator CC or another DXF-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Drawing Exchange Format files. If you are still having problems opening DXF files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Additional factors include:
- Windows Registry DXF file paths that are incorrect
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry DXF description
- Defective install of a DXF program, such as Adobe Illustrator CC
- File corruption affecting your DXF file
- Past or present virus infection has affected your DXF
- Hardware associated with DXF has outdated drivers
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the Drawing Exchange Format format
