Troubleshooting Problems Opening WDP Files
Common Problems Opening WDP Files
Adobe Photoshop Isn't There
You attempt to load your WDP file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The WDP File Extension". Usually, this is because you do not have Adobe Photoshop for %%os%% installed. The OS won't know what to do with your WDP file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your WDP, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Adobe Photoshop Requires Update
Sometimes your installed version of Adobe Photoshop won't support your Windows Media Photo File file. You will need to download a newer version of Adobe Photoshop if you don't have the right version. Most of the time your Windows Media Photo File file was created by a newer Adobe Photoshop than what you have installed.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of WDP file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Conclusion: The majority of WDP file opening issues are due to not having the correct Adobe Photoshop version installed.
Other WDP File Opening Causes
Even with the correct version of Adobe Photoshop installed, you can still experience difficulties opening WDPs. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening WDPs. Problems unrelated to software:
- Windows Registry WDP file paths that are incorrect
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry WDP description
- Adobe Photoshop or another WDP application experienced a flawed installation
- WDP file corruption
- Past or present virus infection has affected your WDP
- Hardware associated with WDP has outdated drivers
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Windows Media Photo File files
