Typical MIME Opening Challenges
Smith Micro StuffIt Deluxe is Not Installed
Double-clicking your MIME file prompts the message "- Can't Open MIME File". Generally, this is experienced in - because Smith Micro StuffIt Deluxe isn't installed on your PC. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the MIME file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your MIME, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Smith Micro StuffIt Deluxe is Out-of-Date
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Multi-Purpose Internet Mail Extension file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you do not have the proper version Smith Micro StuffIt Deluxe (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This issue mainly occurs when your Multi-Purpose Internet Mail Extension file was created by a newer version of Smith Micro StuffIt Deluxe than you have on your PC.
Tip: Investigate your MIME file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening MIME files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Additional MIME Opening Issues
Even with the correct version of Smith Micro StuffIt Deluxe installed, you can still experience difficulties opening MIMEs. If you are continuing to have errors with loading MIME files, other external issues might be to blame. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Windows Registry MIME file paths that are incorrect
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry MIME description
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the MIME format
- The MIME itself is corrupted
- MIME file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Drivers associated with MIME software need to be updated
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Multi-Purpose Internet Mail Extension file
