Common Problems Opening X3DB Files

X3D Removed

You attempt to load your X3DB file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The X3DB File Extension". Usually, this is because you do not have X3D for %%os%% installed. The OS won't know what to do with your X3DB file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.

Tip: When another X3DB application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.

X3D is Out-of-Date

Sometimes your installed version of X3D won't support your X3D Binary Format file. Installing the latest version of X3D from Web3D Consortium is recommended. Most of the time your X3D Binary Format file was created by a newer X3D than what you have installed.

Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the X3DB file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.

Regardless, most of the X3DB file opening problems relate to not having the right version of X3D installed.
