Understanding HTMLX Issues

Troubles Opening HTMLX Files

Egis Isn't There

Double-clicking your HTMLX file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open HTMLX File". Usually, this is because you do not have Egis for %%os%% installed. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.

Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your HTMLX, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").

Outdated Egis

In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Encrypted HTML File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Visit the Egis Technology Inc website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Egis. This issue mainly occurs when your Encrypted HTML File file was created by a newer version of Egis than you have on your PC.

Tip: Investigate your HTMLX file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.

Conclusion: The majority of HTMLX file opening issues are due to not having the correct Egis version installed.

Other HTMLX File Issues

In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Egis will resolve your issue. If you are still having problems opening HTMLX files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. These issues include:

  • HTMLX file references in the Windows Registry are broken
  • Corruption of the HTMLX file description inside the Registry
  • Partial installation of Egis that did not fully complete
  • Your HTMLX can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
  • The HTMLX is infected with a virus
  • Hardware associated with HTMLX has outdated drivers
  • Windows cannot load your Encrypted HTML File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
