Sources of LIST Problems
Common Problems Opening LIST Files
Advanced Package Tool (APT) Not Present
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open LIST Files" when trying to open your LIST. If so, it typically means that you don't have Advanced Package Tool (APT) installed for %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the LIST file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: Another LIST-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Advanced Package Tool (APT) Requires Update
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a APT List File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Download the latest Advanced Package Tool (APT) version from the Open Source website to ensure you have the correct one installed. The primary cause of this problem is that your APT List File file was created by a different (newer) version of Advanced Package Tool (APT) than what's installed.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the LIST file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening LIST files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Other LIST File Opening Causes
Although you might already have Advanced Package Tool (APT) or another LIST-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening APT List File files. If you are continuing to have errors with loading LIST files, other external issues might be to blame. Problems unrelated to software:
- File references in the Windows Registry for LIST are wrong
- Accidental deletion of the description of the LIST file in the Windows registry
- Invalid installation of a LIST-associated program (eg. Advanced Package Tool (APT))
- Your LIST can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Malware-tainted LIST file can't be opened
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your LIST file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the APT List File file
