PAR File Complications
Issues Opening PAR Files
Missing Adobe Acrobat DC
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open PAR Files" when trying to open your PAR. If so, it typically means that you don't have Adobe Acrobat DC installed for %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your PAR with Adobe Acrobat DC, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you don't have Adobe Acrobat DC installed, and you know of another program to open your PAR file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Obsolete Version of Adobe Acrobat DC
It is possible that your version of Adobe Acrobat DC isn't able to open your Solid Edge Part File file due to incompatibility. If you do not have the proper version Adobe Acrobat DC (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. Your Solid Edge Part File file was probably created by a newer release of Adobe Acrobat DC than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: If you right-click on your PAR file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening PAR files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Other Causes of PAR File Opening Problems
Assuming you have the right Adobe Acrobat DC version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening PAR files. If you are continuing to have errors with loading PAR files, other external issues might be to blame. Problems unrelated to software:
- File references in the Windows Registry for PAR are wrong
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry PAR description
- Invalid installation of a PAR-associated program (eg. Adobe Acrobat DC)
- Your PAR can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Malware-tainted PAR file can't be opened
- PAR-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Solid Edge Part File file
