RTX Troubleshooting
Issues Opening RTX Files
LibreOffice is Not Installed
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open RTX Files" when trying to open your RTX. Usually, this is because you do not have LibreOffice for %%os%% installed. Your operating system cannot associate your RTX with LibreOffice, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens RTX files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Wrong Version of LibreOffice is Installed
It is possible that your version of LibreOffice isn't able to open your Rich Text Document file due to incompatibility. Download the latest LibreOffice version from the The Document Foundation website to ensure you have the correct one installed. The primary cause of this problem is that your Rich Text Document file was created by a different (newer) version of LibreOffice than what's installed.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of RTX file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Primarily, problems experienced when opening RTX files are due to having the incorrect version of LibreOffice installed on your computer.
Additional RTX Opening Issues
Assuming you have the right LibreOffice version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening RTX files. If you are still having problems opening RTX files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for RTX
- Deletion of the RTX file description from the Registry by mistake
- Partial installation of LibreOffice that did not fully complete
- Your RTX file is corrupted (issues with your Rich Text Document file itself)
- Your RTX is infected with malware
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your RTX file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Rich Text Document files
