Troubleshoot ABC Files

Issues Opening ABC Files

Adobe Flash Player Not Present

When you double-click your ABC file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Customarily, this means that Adobe Flash Player is not installed on %%os%%. The typical path of opening your ABC with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.

Tip: If you know of another program that can open your ABC file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.

Outdated Adobe Flash Player

It is possible that your version of Adobe Flash Player isn't able to open your ActionScript Byte Code File file due to incompatibility. If you've got the wrong version of Adobe Flash Player installed, you'll need to install the correct version. Most of the time your ActionScript Byte Code File file was created by a newer Adobe Flash Player than what you have installed.

Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of ABC file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).

Conclusion: The majority of ABC file opening issues are due to not having the correct Adobe Flash Player version installed.

Other ABC File Opening Causes

Assuming you have the right Adobe Flash Player version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening ABC files. If you're still experiencing problems opening ABC files, there could be other computer problems. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):

  • Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for ABC
  • Mistaken removal of the Windows registry ABC description
  • Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the ABC format
  • Your ABC can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
  • Past or present virus infection has affected your ABC
