Sources of MPF Problems
Issues Opening MPF Files
Microsoft Clip Organizer Disappeared
Double-clicking your MPF file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open MPF File". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Microsoft Clip Organizer isn't installed on your PC. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you don't have Microsoft Clip Organizer installed, and you know of another program to open your MPF file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Incorrect Microsoft Clip Organizer Version
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Microsoft Media Package File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. You will need to download a newer version of Microsoft Clip Organizer if you don't have the right version. This issue mainly occurs when your Microsoft Media Package File file was created by a newer version of Microsoft Clip Organizer than you have on your PC.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of MPF file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Regardless, most of the MPF file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Microsoft Clip Organizer installed.
More Causes of Problems Opening MPFs
Although you might already have Microsoft Clip Organizer or another MPF-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Microsoft Media Package File files. Other MPF opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Other contributing causes:
- Windows Registry MPF file paths that are incorrect
- Corruption of the MPF file description inside the Registry
- Defective install of a MPF program, such as Microsoft Clip Organizer
- Something has caused file corruption of your MPF
- Malware-tainted MPF file can't be opened
- Hardware associated with MPF has outdated drivers
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the Microsoft Media Package File format
