SI File Complications
Common Problems Opening SI Files
Missing Autodesk Softimage 2015
If you attempt to load your SI file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open SI Files". When this happens, it is commonly due to Autodesk Softimage 2015 missing in %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your SI with Autodesk Softimage 2015, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens SI files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Wrong Version of Autodesk Softimage 2015 is Installed
In other instances, your Softimage Image File file version may not be supported by your version of Autodesk Softimage 2015. You will need to download a newer version of Autodesk Softimage 2015 if you don't have the right version. This problem is predominately due to having a Softimage Image File file version that was created by a newer version of Autodesk Softimage 2015 than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Investigate your SI file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening SI files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
More Causes of Problems Opening SIs
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Autodesk Softimage 2015 will resolve your issue. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening SIs. Problems unrelated to software:
- SI file type Registry entries are wrong
- Deletion of the SI file description from the Registry by mistake
- Defective install of a SI program, such as Autodesk Softimage 2015
- The SI itself is corrupted
- Malware-tainted SI file can't be opened
- Drivers associated with SI software need to be updated
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Softimage Image File file successfully
