Understanding FOR Issues
Typical FOR Opening Challenges
MacroMates TextMate is Not Installed
When you double-click your FOR file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Customarily, this means that MacroMates TextMate is not installed on %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your FOR because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your FOR, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Obsolete Version of MacroMates TextMate
In other instances, your Fortran 77 Source File file version may not be supported by your version of MacroMates TextMate. If you do not have the proper version MacroMates TextMate (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: If you right-click on your FOR file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Summary: Not having the right MacroMates TextMate version on your computer can cause problems opening FOR files.
Other FOR File Issues
Assuming you have the right MacroMates TextMate version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening FOR files. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening FORs. Problems unrelated to software:
- FOR file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Corruption of the FOR file description inside the Registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the FOR format
- FOR file corruption
- Malware-tainted FOR file can't be opened
- FOR-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the Fortran 77 Source File format
