F77 File Complications

Frequent F77 Opening Issues

Intel Fortran Compiler Removed

You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open F77 Files" when trying to open your F77. Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Intel Fortran Compiler isn't installed on your PC. Your operating system cannot associate your F77 with Intel Fortran Compiler, so double-clicking the file won't work.

Tip: If you don't have Intel Fortran Compiler installed, and you know of another program to open your F77 file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".

Wrong Version of Intel Fortran Compiler is Installed

In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Fortran 77 Language Source File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you do not have the proper version Intel Fortran Compiler (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. Most of the time your Fortran 77 Language Source File file was created by a newer Intel Fortran Compiler than what you have installed.

Tip: If you right-click on your F77 file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.

Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening F77 files are due to having the wrong version of Intel Fortran Compiler installed.

Other F77 File Issues

Even with the correct version of Intel Fortran Compiler installed, you can still experience difficulties opening F77s. Other F77 opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Additional factors include:

  • Windows Registry F77 file paths that are incorrect
  • Corruption of the F77 file description inside the Registry
  • Intel Fortran Compiler or another F77 application experienced a flawed installation
  • Your F77 can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
  • The F77 is infected with a virus
  • Device drivers of the hardware associated with your F77 file are corrupt or out-of-date
  • Windows has inadequate resources to open your Fortran 77 Language Source File file
