Understanding MP4V Issues
Common Problems Opening MP4V Files
CyberLink PowerDVD Not Present
When trying to open your MP4V file, you get the error "Can't Open MP4V File Type". Customarily, this means that CyberLink PowerDVD is not installed on %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your MP4V because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens MP4V files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
CyberLink PowerDVD Requires Update
In other instances, your MPEG-4 Video File file version may not be supported by your version of CyberLink PowerDVD. If you do not have the proper version CyberLink PowerDVD (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. Your MPEG-4 Video File file was probably created by a newer release of CyberLink PowerDVD than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the MP4V file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening MP4V files are due to having the incorrect version of CyberLink PowerDVD installed on your computer.
Other MP4V File Opening Causes
Assuming you have the right CyberLink PowerDVD version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening MP4V files. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening MP4Vs. These issues include:
- File references in the Windows Registry for MP4V are wrong
- Accidental deletion of the description of the MP4V file in the Windows registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the MP4V format
- File corruption affecting your MP4V file
- Your MP4V is infected with malware
- MP4V-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open MPEG-4 Video File files
