Troubleshooting Problems Opening M2V Files
Issues Opening M2V Files
CyberLink PowerDVD Isn't There
Double-clicking your M2V file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open M2V File". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have CyberLink PowerDVD for %%os%% installed on your computer. The OS won't know what to do with your M2V file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens M2V files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
CyberLink PowerDVD Requires Update
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of CyberLink PowerDVD installed that's incompatible with your MPEG-2 Packetized Elementary Stream type. Visit the CyberLink website to download (or purchase) the latest version of CyberLink PowerDVD. This issue mainly occurs when your MPEG-2 Packetized Elementary Stream file was created by a newer version of CyberLink PowerDVD than you have on your PC.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of M2V file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Regardless, most of the M2V file opening problems relate to not having the right version of CyberLink PowerDVD installed.
Additional M2V Opening Issues
Errors opening MPEG-2 Packetized Elementary Stream files can still occur even with the latest CyberLink PowerDVD software installed on your computer. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening M2V files. Problems unrelated to software:
- M2V file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Deletion of the M2V file description from the Registry by mistake
- CyberLink PowerDVD or another M2V application experienced a flawed installation
- M2V file corruption
- Malware-tainted M2V file can't be opened
- Hardware related to M2Vs has device driver corruption
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the MPEG-2 Packetized Elementary Stream file
