Understanding VIV Issues
Issues Opening VIV Files
Missing Need For Speed
If you attempt to load your VIV file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open VIV Files". Customarily, this means that Need For Speed is not installed on %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your VIV with Need For Speed, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: Another VIV-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Need For Speed is Out-of-Date
Your Need For Speed Car Data File file is incompatible with Need For Speed because you might have the wrong version installed. Download the latest Need For Speed version from the Electronic Arts website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This issue mainly occurs when your Need For Speed Car Data File file was created by a newer version of Need For Speed than you have on your PC.
Tip: If you right-click on your VIV file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Summary: Not having the right Need For Speed version on your computer can cause problems opening VIV files.
Other Causes of VIV File Opening Problems
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Need For Speed will resolve your issue. Other VIV opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Problems unrelated to software:
