Understanding VOB Issues
Typical VOB Opening Challenges
CyberLink PowerDVD Removed
If you attempt to load your VOB file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open VOB Files". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because CyberLink PowerDVD isn't installed on your PC. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens VOB files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Incorrect CyberLink PowerDVD Version
Sometimes your installed version of CyberLink PowerDVD won't support your DVD Video Object File file. If you've got the wrong version of CyberLink PowerDVD installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the VOB file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Conclusion: The majority of VOB file opening issues are due to not having the correct CyberLink PowerDVD version installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading VOB Files
Even with the correct version of CyberLink PowerDVD installed, you can still experience difficulties opening VOBs. If you are continuing to have errors with loading VOB files, other external issues might be to blame. These issues include:
- VOB file type Registry entries are wrong
- The VOB file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- CyberLink PowerDVD or another VOB application experienced a flawed installation
- The VOB itself is corrupted
- The VOB is infected with a virus
- Hardware related to VOBs has device driver corruption
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open DVD Video Object File files
