WPX Troubleshooting
Frequent WPX Opening Issues
Microsoft Windows Removed
When you double-click your WPX file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Customarily, this means that Microsoft Windows is not installed on %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your WPX with Microsoft Windows, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens WPX files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Obsolete Version of Microsoft Windows
Your Printer Description File 2 file is incompatible with Microsoft Windows because you might have the wrong version installed. Installing the latest version of Microsoft Windows from Microsoft Corporation is recommended. This issue mainly occurs when your Printer Description File 2 file was created by a newer version of Microsoft Windows than you have on your PC.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your WPX file and clicking "Properties".
Conclusion: The majority of WPX file opening issues are due to not having the correct Microsoft Windows version installed.
Other WPX File Issues
Errors opening Printer Description File 2 files can still occur even with the latest Microsoft Windows software installed on your computer. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening WPXs. Additional factors include:
- Invalid WPX file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Deletion of the WPX file description from the Registry by mistake
- Corrupt install of Microsoft Windows or other WPX-related program
- Your WPX can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Your WPX is infected with malware
- Drivers associated with WPX software need to be updated
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the Printer Description File 2 format
