Sources of OT Problems

Frequent OT Opening Issues

theWord Disappeared

When trying to open your OT file, you get the error "Can't Open OT File Type". Customarily, this means that theWord is not installed on %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the OT file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.

Tip: If you know of another program that can open your OT file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.

theWord Requires Update

In other instances, your TheWord Old Testament Text Module file version may not be supported by your version of theWord. If you've got the wrong version of theWord installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This problem is predominately due to having a TheWord Old Testament Text Module file version that was created by a newer version of theWord than what you have installed on your PC.

Tip: If you right-click on your OT file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.

Regardless, most of the OT file opening problems relate to not having the right version of theWord installed.

Additional OT Opening Issues

Errors opening TheWord Old Testament Text Module files can still occur even with the latest theWord software installed on your computer. Other OT opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. These issues include:

  • Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for OT
  • Mistaken removal of the Windows registry OT description
  • Corrupt install of theWord or other OT-related program
  • Your OT can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
  • Your OT has adversely impacted by malware
  • Drivers associated with OT software need to be updated
  • Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the TheWord Old Testament Text Module file
