Troubleshooting Problems Opening XMZ Files
Issues Opening XMZ Files
Missing ModPlug Player
You attempt to load your XMZ file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The XMZ File Extension". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because ModPlug Player isn't installed on your PC. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: When another XMZ application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Obsolete Version of ModPlug Player
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of ModPlug Player installed that's incompatible with your FastTracker 2 Extended Module type. Installing the latest version of ModPlug Player from Open Source is recommended. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the XMZ file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Summary: Not having the right ModPlug Player version on your computer can cause problems opening XMZ files.
Other Causes of XMZ File Opening Problems
You can still experience errors opening XMZ files even with the latest version of ModPlug Player installed on your PC. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening XMZ files. Additional factors include:
- Windows Registry XMZ file paths that are incorrect
- Accidental deletion of the description of the XMZ file in the Windows registry
- Defective install of a XMZ program, such as ModPlug Player
- Something has caused file corruption of your XMZ
- Your XMZ has adversely impacted by malware
- Drivers associated with XMZ software need to be updated
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open FastTracker 2 Extended Module files
