CURSOR Troubleshooting

Typical CURSOR Opening Challenges

SunOS Removed

When you double-click your CURSOR file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because SunOS isn't installed on your PC. You won't be able to double-click to open your CURSOR because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.

Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your CURSOR, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").

Incorrect SunOS Version

It is possible that your version of SunOS isn't able to open your Sun Cursor file due to incompatibility. You will need to download a newer version of SunOS if you don't have the right version. Your Sun Cursor file was probably created by a newer release of SunOS than what's currently installed your computer.

Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the CURSOR file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.

Primarily, problems experienced when opening CURSOR files are due to having the incorrect version of SunOS installed on your computer.

Other CURSOR File Issues

You can still experience errors opening CURSOR files even with the latest version of SunOS installed on your PC. If you're still experiencing problems opening CURSOR files, there could be other computer problems. Additional factors include:

  • File references in the Windows Registry for CURSOR are wrong
  • Deletion of the CURSOR file description from the Registry by mistake
  • Partial installation of SunOS that did not fully complete
  • The CURSOR itself is corrupted
  • CURSOR file integrity has been compromised by malware
  • Drivers associated with CURSOR software need to be updated
  • Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the Sun Cursor format
