Sources of SPARC Problems

Frequent SPARC Opening Issues

Skype is Not Installed

You attempt to load your SPARC file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The SPARC File Extension". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Skype for %%os%% installed on your computer. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the SPARC file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.

Tip: When another SPARC application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.

Skype Requires Update

It is possible that your version of Skype isn't able to open your Skype Plugin Archive file due to incompatibility. Download the latest Skype version from the Skype Technologies website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.

Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the SPARC file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.

Primarily, problems experienced when opening SPARC files are due to having the incorrect version of Skype installed on your computer.

Associated Difficulties Loading SPARC Files

In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Skype will resolve your issue. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening SPARC files. Additional factors include:

  • Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for SPARC
  • The SPARC file description within the Windows Registry was removed
  • Invalid installation of a SPARC-associated program (eg. Skype)
  • Your SPARC file is corrupted (issues with your Skype Plugin Archive file itself)
  • Your SPARC is infected with malware
  • SPARC-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
  • Windows has inadequate resources to open your Skype Plugin Archive file

Poll: How many different computer files (eg. documents, videos, audio) do you typically view or edit on a daily basis?
