Troubleshoot SUN Files
Common Problems Opening SUN Files
GIMP Isn't There
When you double-click your SUN file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Customarily, this means that GIMP is not installed on %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your SUN file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: When another SUN application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Obsolete Version of GIMP
It is possible that your version of GIMP isn't able to open your Sun Raster Graphic File file due to incompatibility. If you do not have the proper version GIMP (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Right-clicking on your SUN, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening SUN files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Other SUN File Issues
You can still experience errors opening SUN files even with the latest version of GIMP installed on your PC. If you are continuing to have errors with loading SUN files, other external issues might be to blame. These issues include:
- Invalid SUN file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Deletion of the SUN file description from the Registry by mistake
- Corrupt install of GIMP or other SUN-related program
- Your SUN file is corrupted (issues with your Sun Raster Graphic File file itself)
- Your SUN has adversely impacted by malware
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your SUN file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Sun Raster Graphic File files
