Sources of CMY Problems
Frequent CMY Opening Issues
Missing CorelDRAW Graphics Suite
When you double-click your CMY file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Customarily, this means that CorelDRAW Graphics Suite is not installed on %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your CMY because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: Another CMY-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Wrong Version of CorelDRAW Graphics Suite is Installed
It is possible that your version of CorelDRAW Graphics Suite isn't able to open your CorelDRAW Custom File file due to incompatibility. You will need to download a newer version of CorelDRAW Graphics Suite if you don't have the right version. Most of the time your CorelDRAW Custom File file was created by a newer CorelDRAW Graphics Suite than what you have installed.
Tip: Right-clicking on your CMY, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening CMY files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Other Causes of CMY File Opening Problems
Although you might already have CorelDRAW Graphics Suite or another CMY-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening CorelDRAW Custom File files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening CMY files. Problems unrelated to software:
- CMY file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Corruption of the CMY file description inside the Registry
- Invalid installation of a CMY-associated program (eg. CorelDRAW Graphics Suite)
- Your CMY file is corrupted (issues with your CorelDRAW Custom File file itself)
- Your CMY is infected with malware
- Drivers associated with CMY software need to be updated
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your CorelDRAW Custom File file
