Understanding TST Issues
Common Problems Opening TST Files
Measurement Computing TestPoint Disappeared
Double-clicking your TST file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open TST File". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Measurement Computing TestPoint for %%os%% installed on your computer. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your TST, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Measurement Computing TestPoint is Out-of-Date
It is possible that your version of Measurement Computing TestPoint isn't able to open your TestPoint Test File file due to incompatibility. Download the latest Measurement Computing TestPoint version from the Measurement Computing website to ensure you have the correct one installed. The primary cause of this problem is that your TestPoint Test File file was created by a different (newer) version of Measurement Computing TestPoint than what's installed.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of TST file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Regardless, most of the TST file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Measurement Computing TestPoint installed.
Other Causes of TST File Opening Problems
Even with the correct version of Measurement Computing TestPoint installed, you can still experience difficulties opening TSTs. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening TST files. Additional factors include:
- Invalid TST file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry TST description
- Invalid installation of a TST-associated program (eg. Measurement Computing TestPoint)
- Your TST can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Malware-tainted TST file can't be opened
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your TST file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the TestPoint Test File format
