Sources of VLB Problems
Common Problems Opening VLB Files
Corel Ventura Isn't There
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open VLB Files" when trying to open your VLB. When this happens, it is commonly due to Corel Ventura missing in %%os%%. The typical path of opening your VLB with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: When another VLB application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Incorrect Corel Ventura Version
Your Corel Ventura Library file is incompatible with Corel Ventura because you might have the wrong version installed. Visit the Corel Corporation website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Corel Ventura. Your Corel Ventura Library file was probably created by a newer release of Corel Ventura than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of VLB file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Conclusion: The majority of VLB file opening issues are due to not having the correct Corel Ventura version installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading VLB Files
Even with the correct version of Corel Ventura installed, you can still experience difficulties opening VLBs. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening VLB files. These issues include:
- Invalid VLB file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Unintentional removal of the description of the VLB file inside the Windows Registry
- Corel Ventura or another VLB application experienced a flawed installation
- Your VLB file is corrupted (issues with your Corel Ventura Library file itself)
- VLB file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Hardware associated with VLB has outdated drivers
- Windows cannot load your Corel Ventura Library file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
