Sources of WRS Problems
Frequent WRS Opening Issues
Corel WordPerfect X8 Isn't There
When trying to open your WRS file, you get the error "Can't Open WRS File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have Corel WordPerfect X8 for %%os%% installed. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the WRS file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you don't have Corel WordPerfect X8 installed, and you know of another program to open your WRS file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Corel WordPerfect X8 is Out-of-Date
It is possible that your version of Corel WordPerfect X8 isn't able to open your Corel WordPerfect Windows Printer Driver File file due to incompatibility. Installing the latest version of Corel WordPerfect X8 from Corel is recommended. The primary cause of this problem is that your Corel WordPerfect Windows Printer Driver File file was created by a different (newer) version of Corel WordPerfect X8 than what's installed.
Tip: Right-clicking on your WRS, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Conclusion: The majority of WRS file opening issues are due to not having the correct Corel WordPerfect X8 version installed.
More Causes of Problems Opening WRSs
You can still experience errors opening WRS files even with the latest version of Corel WordPerfect X8 installed on your PC. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening WRSs. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for WRS
- Deletion of the WRS file description from the Registry by mistake
- Partial installation of Corel WordPerfect X8 that did not fully complete
- Your WRS file is corrupted (issues with your Corel WordPerfect Windows Printer Driver File file itself)
- WRS file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Hardware associated with WRS has outdated drivers
- Windows cannot load your Corel WordPerfect Windows Printer Driver File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
