Understanding ARY Issues
Common ARY Opening Problems
Missing SmartStart
You attempt to load your ARY file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The ARY File Extension". If so, it typically means that you don't have SmartStart installed for %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your ARY file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your ARY, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Incorrect SmartStart Version
In other instances, your SmartStart Scripting Toolkit Data file version may not be supported by your version of SmartStart. You will need to download a newer version of SmartStart if you don't have the right version. This issue mainly occurs when your SmartStart Scripting Toolkit Data file was created by a newer version of SmartStart than you have on your PC.
Tip: Right-clicking on your ARY, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Regardless, most of the ARY file opening problems relate to not having the right version of SmartStart installed.
Other ARY File Opening Causes
You can still experience errors opening ARY files even with the latest version of SmartStart installed on your PC. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening ARY files. Other contributing causes:
- Windows Registry ARY file paths that are incorrect
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry ARY description
- Invalid installation of a ARY-associated program (eg. SmartStart)
- Your ARY can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Your ARY has adversely impacted by malware
- ARY-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your SmartStart Scripting Toolkit Data file
