EDL Troubleshooting
Common EDL Opening Problems
Adobe Premiere Pro CC is Not Installed
When you double-click your EDL file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Adobe Premiere Pro CC for %%os%% installed on your computer. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the EDL file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens EDL files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Incorrect Adobe Premiere Pro CC Version
Sometimes your installed version of Adobe Premiere Pro CC won't support your Edit Decision List File file. Download the latest Adobe Premiere Pro CC version from the Adobe Systems Incorporated website to ensure you have the correct one installed. Your Edit Decision List File file was probably created by a newer release of Adobe Premiere Pro CC than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the EDL file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Summary: Not having the right Adobe Premiere Pro CC version on your computer can cause problems opening EDL files.
Other EDL File Opening Causes
Although you might already have Adobe Premiere Pro CC or another EDL-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Edit Decision List File files. Other EDL opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Other contributing causes:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for EDL
- Accidental deletion of the description of the EDL file in the Windows registry
- Corrupt install of Adobe Premiere Pro CC or other EDL-related program
- The EDL itself is corrupted
- Past or present virus infection has affected your EDL
- Device drivers for EDL-related hardware are out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Edit Decision List File files
