Sources of FBW Problems
Common FBW Opening Problems
Missing HP Recovery Manager
You attempt to load your FBW file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The FBW File Extension". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because HP Recovery Manager isn't installed on your PC. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the FBW file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your FBW, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
HP Recovery Manager Requires Update
It is possible that your version of HP Recovery Manager isn't able to open your HP Recovery Manager Backup File file due to incompatibility. Visit the Hewlett-Packard website to download (or purchase) the latest version of HP Recovery Manager. This problem is predominately due to having a HP Recovery Manager Backup File file version that was created by a newer version of HP Recovery Manager than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of FBW file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Primarily, problems experienced when opening FBW files are due to having the incorrect version of HP Recovery Manager installed on your computer.
More Causes of Problems Opening FBWs
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of HP Recovery Manager will resolve your issue. If you are still having problems opening FBW files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Additional factors include:
- Windows Registry FBW file paths that are incorrect
- Corruption of the FBW file description inside the Registry
- Defective install of a FBW program, such as HP Recovery Manager
- Your FBW file is corrupted (issues with your HP Recovery Manager Backup File file itself)
- Malware-tainted FBW file can't be opened
- Device drivers for FBW-related hardware are out-of-date
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the HP Recovery Manager Backup File format
