Understanding HFI Issues
Common HFI Opening Problems
Unknown Software Isn't There
If you attempt to load your HFI file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open HFI Files". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Unknown Software for %%os%% installed on your computer. The OS won't know what to do with your HFI file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you don't have Unknown Software installed, and you know of another program to open your HFI file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Wrong Version of Unknown Software is Installed
Sometimes your installed version of Unknown Software won't support your HP Font file. Visit the Unknown Developer website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Unknown Software. Your HP Font file was probably created by a newer release of Unknown Software than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Investigate your HFI file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening HFI files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Associated Difficulties Loading HFI Files
Even with the correct version of Unknown Software installed, you can still experience difficulties opening HFIs. If you are still having problems opening HFI files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Additional factors include:
- Windows Registry HFI file paths that are incorrect
- Unintentional removal of the description of the HFI file inside the Windows Registry
- Partial installation of Unknown Software that did not fully complete
- HFI file corruption
- Your HFI is infected with malware
- HFI-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Windows cannot load your HP Font file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
