Sources of HP Problems
Typical HP Opening Challenges
Canvas X is Not Installed
If you attempt to load your HP file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open HP Files". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Canvas X for %%os%% installed on your computer. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your HP file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Outdated Canvas X
It is possible that your version of Canvas X isn't able to open your HP Graphics Language Plotter File file due to incompatibility. You will need to download a newer version of Canvas X if you don't have the right version. This problem is predominately due to having a HP Graphics Language Plotter File file version that was created by a newer version of Canvas X than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Investigate your HP file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Conclusion: The majority of HP file opening issues are due to not having the correct Canvas X version installed.
Other HP File Opening Causes
Even with the correct version of Canvas X installed, you can still experience difficulties opening HPs. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening HPs. Issues that aren't software-related:
- HP file type Registry entries are wrong
- Deletion of the HP file description from the Registry by mistake
- Defective install of a HP program, such as Canvas X
- File corruption affecting your HP file
- The HP is infected with a virus
- HP-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open HP Graphics Language Plotter File files
