Troubleshoot LSI Files
Issues Opening LSI Files
LightScribe Template Labeler Not Present
When you double-click your LSI file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If so, it typically means that you don't have LightScribe Template Labeler installed for %%os%%. The typical path of opening your LSI with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your LSI file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
LightScribe Template Labeler Requires Update
Sometimes your installed version of LightScribe Template Labeler won't support your Xerox Lightscribe Label file. You will need to download a newer version of LightScribe Template Labeler if you don't have the right version. Your Xerox Lightscribe Label file was probably created by a newer release of LightScribe Template Labeler than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the LSI file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening LSI files are due to having the wrong version of LightScribe Template Labeler installed.
Other Causes of LSI File Opening Problems
Even with the correct version of LightScribe Template Labeler installed, you can still experience difficulties opening LSIs. Other LSI opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Invalid LSI file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Corruption of the LSI file description inside the Registry
- LightScribe Template Labeler or another LSI application experienced a flawed installation
- Your LSI file is corrupted (issues with your Xerox Lightscribe Label file itself)
- The LSI is infected with a virus
- Hardware related to LSIs has device driver corruption
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Xerox Lightscribe Label file
