Troubleshoot OID Files
Common OID Opening Problems
HP ProCurve Manager Not Present
You attempt to load your OID file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The OID File Extension". Customarily, this means that HP ProCurve Manager is not installed on %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your OID because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your OID, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
HP ProCurve Manager is Out-of-Date
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of HP ProCurve Manager installed that's incompatible with your HP ProCurve Manager Network Device File type. Download the latest HP ProCurve Manager version from the Hewlett-Packard website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This problem is predominately due to having a HP ProCurve Manager Network Device File file version that was created by a newer version of HP ProCurve Manager than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Right-clicking on your OID, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Summary: Not having the right HP ProCurve Manager version on your computer can cause problems opening OID files.
Other OID File Issues
Although you might already have HP ProCurve Manager or another OID-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening HP ProCurve Manager Network Device File files. If you are continuing to have errors with loading OID files, other external issues might be to blame. Additional factors include:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for OID
- The OID file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Defective install of a OID program, such as HP ProCurve Manager
- File corruption affecting your OID file
- Your OID has adversely impacted by malware
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your OID file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your HP ProCurve Manager Network Device File file successfully
