Understanding PAQ Issues

Troubles Opening PAQ Files

Corel WinZip 21 Disappeared

You attempt to load your PAQ file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The PAQ File Extension". Customarily, this means that Corel WinZip 21 is not installed on %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your PAQ because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.

Tip: If you don't have Corel WinZip 21 installed, and you know of another program to open your PAQ file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".

Obsolete Version of Corel WinZip 21

Sometimes your installed version of Corel WinZip 21 won't support your Hewlett-Packard (HP) Software Restore File file. If you do not have the proper version Corel WinZip 21 (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem is predominately due to having a Hewlett-Packard (HP) Software Restore File file version that was created by a newer version of Corel WinZip 21 than what you have installed on your PC.

Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the PAQ file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.

Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening PAQ files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.

Other PAQ File Issues

Although you might already have Corel WinZip 21 or another PAQ-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Hewlett-Packard (HP) Software Restore File files. If you are still having problems opening PAQ files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. These issues include:

  • File references in the Windows Registry for PAQ are wrong
  • The PAQ file description within the Windows Registry was removed
  • Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the PAQ format
  • Your PAQ file is corrupted (issues with your Hewlett-Packard (HP) Software Restore File file itself)
  • Past or present virus infection has affected your PAQ
  • PAQ-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
  • Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Hewlett-Packard (HP) Software Restore File file successfully
