Understanding RFU Issues
Frequent RFU Opening Issues
Missing HP Remote Firmware Update
You attempt to load your RFU file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The RFU File Extension". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because HP Remote Firmware Update isn't installed on your PC. The typical path of opening your RFU with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your RFU, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
HP Remote Firmware Update is Out-of-Date
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Remote Firmware Update file that is unsupported by your installed application version. You will need to download a newer version of HP Remote Firmware Update if you don't have the right version. This problem is predominately due to having a Remote Firmware Update file version that was created by a newer version of HP Remote Firmware Update than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the RFU file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening RFU files are due to having the incorrect version of HP Remote Firmware Update installed on your computer.
More Causes of Problems Opening RFUs
Even with the correct version of HP Remote Firmware Update installed, you can still experience difficulties opening RFUs. If you are continuing to have errors with loading RFU files, other external issues might be to blame. These issues include:
- Invalid RFU file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- The RFU file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Invalid installation of a RFU-associated program (eg. HP Remote Firmware Update)
- Your RFU file is corrupted (issues with your Remote Firmware Update file itself)
- The RFU is infected with a virus
- Hardware related to RFUs has device driver corruption
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the Remote Firmware Update format
