Troubleshoot EPT Files
Typical EPT Opening Challenges
Adobe Acrobat DC is Not Installed
When trying to open your EPT file, you get the error "Can't Open EPT File Type". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Adobe Acrobat DC isn't installed on your PC. The OS won't know what to do with your EPT file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your EPT file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Wrong Version of Adobe Acrobat DC is Installed
Sometimes your installed version of Adobe Acrobat DC won't support your Adobe Encapsulated PostScript Interchange Format With TIFF Preview file. Installing the latest version of Adobe Acrobat DC from Adobe Systems Incorporated is recommended. This issue mainly occurs when your Adobe Encapsulated PostScript Interchange Format With TIFF Preview file was created by a newer version of Adobe Acrobat DC than you have on your PC.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of EPT file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Regardless, most of the EPT file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Adobe Acrobat DC installed.
Other Causes of EPT File Opening Problems
Even with the correct version of Adobe Acrobat DC installed, you can still experience difficulties opening EPTs. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening EPT files. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- EPT file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Accidental deletion of the description of the EPT file in the Windows registry

- Your EPT file is corrupted (issues with your Adobe Encapsulated PostScript Interchange Format With TIFF Preview file itself)
- Your EPT has adversely impacted by malware
- EPT-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Adobe Encapsulated PostScript Interchange Format With TIFF Preview file successfully
