CBK File Complications

Typical CBK Opening Challenges

InterSystems Cache Disappeared

When trying to open your CBK file, you get the error "Can't Open CBK File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have InterSystems Cache for %%os%% installed on your computer. You won't be able to double-click to open your CBK because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.

Tip: If you know of another program that can open your CBK file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.

Wrong Version of InterSystems Cache is Installed

Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of InterSystems Cache installed that's incompatible with your Backup Configuration File type. Visit the InterSystems website to download (or purchase) the latest version of InterSystems Cache. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.

Tip: Right-clicking on your CBK, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.

Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening CBK files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.

Other CBK File Issues

Errors opening Backup Configuration File files can still occur even with the latest InterSystems Cache software installed on your computer. Other CBK opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Issues that aren't software-related:

  • CBK file type Registry entries are wrong
  • Deletion of the CBK file description from the Registry by mistake
  • Defective install of a CBK program, such as InterSystems Cache
  • Your CBK file is corrupted (issues with your Backup Configuration File file itself)
  • Past or present virus infection has affected your CBK
  • Hardware associated with CBK has outdated drivers
  • Windows cannot load your Backup Configuration File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
