Troubleshoot CDS Files

Typical CDS Opening Challenges

ConceptDraw PRO is Not Installed

When trying to open your CDS file, you get the error "Can't Open CDS File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have ConceptDraw PRO for %%os%% installed on your computer. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the CDS file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.

Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your CDS, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").

Incorrect ConceptDraw PRO Version

In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a ConceptDraw SlideShow file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Installing the latest version of ConceptDraw PRO from CS Odessa is recommended. Your ConceptDraw SlideShow file was probably created by a newer release of ConceptDraw PRO than what's currently installed your computer.

Tip: Investigate your CDS file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.

Primarily, problems experienced when opening CDS files are due to having the incorrect version of ConceptDraw PRO installed on your computer.

Associated Difficulties Loading CDS Files

In the majority of cases, installing the right version of ConceptDraw PRO will resolve your issue. If you are still having problems opening CDS files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. These issues include:

  • CDS file references in the Windows Registry are broken
  • Mistaken removal of the Windows registry CDS description
  • Defective install of a CDS program, such as ConceptDraw PRO
  • Your CDS file is corrupted (issues with your ConceptDraw SlideShow file itself)
  • Your CDS is infected with malware
  • CDS-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
  • Windows cannot load your ConceptDraw SlideShow file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
