CGL Troubleshooting
Common Problems Opening CGL Files
RAD Studio Disappeared
When you double-click your CGL file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because RAD Studio isn't installed on your PC. The typical path of opening your CGL with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your CGL, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Outdated RAD Studio
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of RAD Studio installed that's incompatible with your CodeGuard Error Log File type. Visit the Embarcadero Technologies website to download (or purchase) the latest version of RAD Studio. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Right-clicking on your CGL, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Conclusion: The majority of CGL file opening issues are due to not having the correct RAD Studio version installed.
Other Causes of CGL File Opening Problems
Assuming you have the right RAD Studio version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening CGL files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening CGL files. Additional factors include:
- Invalid CGL file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- The CGL file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Partial installation of RAD Studio that did not fully complete
- The CGL itself is corrupted
- CGL file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your CGL file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your CodeGuard Error Log File file successfully
