DRC Troubleshooting
Common DRC Opening Problems
Microsoft Notepad Disappeared
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open DRC Files" when trying to open your DRC. If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Microsoft Notepad for %%os%% installed on your computer. The OS won't know what to do with your DRC file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: Another DRC-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Microsoft Notepad Requires Update
It is possible that your version of Microsoft Notepad isn't able to open your Open Mobile Alliance DRM Rights Object file due to incompatibility. Installing the latest version of Microsoft Notepad from Microsoft Corporation is recommended. Your Open Mobile Alliance DRM Rights Object file was probably created by a newer release of Microsoft Notepad than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Right-clicking on your DRC, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Summary: Not having the right Microsoft Notepad version on your computer can cause problems opening DRC files.
Associated Difficulties Loading DRC Files
You can still experience errors opening DRC files even with the latest version of Microsoft Notepad installed on your PC. If you're still experiencing problems opening DRC files, there could be other computer problems. Other contributing causes:
- Windows Registry DRC file paths that are incorrect
- The DRC file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Corrupt install of Microsoft Notepad or other DRC-related program
- Your DRC file is corrupted (issues with your Open Mobile Alliance DRM Rights Object file itself)
- DRC file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Hardware related to DRCs has device driver corruption
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Open Mobile Alliance DRM Rights Object file
