Troubleshoot SWG Files
Common Problems Opening SWG Files
Turbo Pascal is Not Installed
Double-clicking your SWG file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open SWG File". When this happens, it is commonly due to Turbo Pascal missing in %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the SWG file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your SWG, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Outdated Turbo Pascal
Your SWAG Pascal Snippets file is incompatible with Turbo Pascal because you might have the wrong version installed. Installing the latest version of Turbo Pascal from Embarcadero Technologies is recommended. The primary cause of this problem is that your SWAG Pascal Snippets file was created by a different (newer) version of Turbo Pascal than what's installed.
Tip: If you right-click on your SWG file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Conclusion: The majority of SWG file opening issues are due to not having the correct Turbo Pascal version installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading SWG Files
Assuming you have the right Turbo Pascal version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening SWG files. If you are still having problems opening SWG files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. These issues include:
- SWG file type Registry entries are wrong
- Accidental deletion of the description of the SWG file in the Windows registry
- Invalid installation of a SWG-associated program (eg. Turbo Pascal)
- SWG file corruption
- Malware-tainted SWG file can't be opened
- SWG-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your SWAG Pascal Snippets file successfully
